Repair and protection of damaged cold room and freezer panels with installation of guard rails to prevent future impact damage.
JC Stainless Solutions was engaged by P&O Cruises to repair and protect a cold room and freezer area that had suffered ongoing damage through regular operational use. With heavy machinery moving in and out each week for restocking, the side wall panels had become damaged over time, leading to rips, tears, and failed seals.
This was more than a cosmetic issue. The damaged panels were allowing ice build-up, affecting performance, hygiene, and compliance, while also creating concerns around USPH compliance. The brief was to restore the room to a compliant standard and provide a longer-term solution that would help prevent the same problem from happening again.
The cold room and freezer were exposed to frequent impact damage caused by the day-to-day movement of heavy stocking machinery. As equipment passed in and out of the space every week, the side panels were repeatedly struck, causing visible wear and more serious structural issues over time.
This led to:
• Rips and tears in the wall panels
• Broken seals within the cold room and freezer envelope
• Ice build-up caused by compromised insulation and sealing
• A non-compliant environment
• Increased risk of failing USPH compliance standards
In high-demand catering and food storage environments onboard ship, cold rooms and freezers need to remain fully sealed, hygienic, and operational at all times. Repeated panel damage was putting that at risk.
